Here’s a brief look at car insurance

The need to buy enough NC auto insurance only arose after July 1, 1909, which is the date the state of North Carolina began registering vehicles. Since 1957, North Carolina became the first US state to implement mandatory insurance laws. In fact, if your vehicle’s insurance plan is removed, it will require you to surrender your license plate.

When you buy auto insurance in North Carolina, you will need to purchase minimum acceptable liability coverage and this coverage should remain valid until the completion of your vehicle registration. In fact, when you register or title your vehicle, you will be asked to provide proof that the vehicle is insured.

Regarding the purchase of minimum liability insurance in North Carolina, you will need to obtain coverage of at least thirty thousand dollars to cover a person’s bodily injury. You also need to purchase $ 60,000 bodily injury coverage that covers more than one person and you also need to purchase $ 25,000 worth of property damage coverage.

The state of North Carolina also requires (by law) all businesses to notify DMV in the event coverage is terminated. In case your insurance company changes or if your coverage has expired, you should notify the DMV about this. The DMV when you receive this notification will send you a form called FS 5 7 Notice to which you must respond within ten days.

In the event that you do not allow a gap in your coverage, you will only need to provide the appropriate information related to your insurance. This information must be entered on Form FS 5 7, which must then be returned to the DMV within ten days from the date the form was received.

If there is a gap in your coverage, you must once again certify your information and submit any penalties noted in the letter. This must be done within ten days from the date of receipt of the letter, as only then can you keep your registration. In case you do not respond within the stipulated time, then it can lead to the loss of the plate for a period of thirty days.

In the event that you are certain that your coverage was terminated without the proper reason, you will need to call and schedule a hearing with the DMV.
