10 bridal makeup tips for the perfect bridal look

Your wedding day is one of the most memorable days of your life! Paying a photographer to capture the highlights is basically a waste if you don’t look like the belle of the dance. Your makeup needs to be applied and set to work perfectly with the camera lights or the kiss of the sun. Make sure you’re ready for your close-up! Here are some tips:

Hire a professional or DIY?

You have hired a caterer, a baker, a florist, a stylist, a planner and many other wedding professionals. Why would you leave the best part to an amateur? Hire a professional makeup artist. They will know how to apply your makeup in the way that best defines who you are. If you stayed up too late the night before visiting family or partying with friends, a makeup artist can erase all evidence of the night before. If you plan to leave this part out of the budget, there are some things you probably didn’t know that you needed to know. Here’s a list of steps to take to ensure perfect makeup, whether you’re doing it yourself or a friend or have hired a professional.

Practice makes perfect

Make sure to practice your makeup application before the wedding. This gives your makeup artist a chance to get to know you and what works best for you as well. It also gives you a chance to hone your skill if you do your makeup that day.

Solid base

Do not apply foundation to bare skin. A foundation moisturizer or primer will protect your skin and give your foundation a better chance to even out your skin tone and go on smoothly.

Airbrush or hand brush

Airbrush makeup has staying power and feels very light on the skin. However, without much experience, the artist can make you look a bit worn or overdone. Hand brushed makeup is much more artistic, and in the hands of the right person, the brush can produce results similar to those of the models in all those wedding magazines you’ve been reading.

primed and ready

It is very important to understand matte vs illuminating primers and bases. If you’re getting married outdoors, a sweet, glowing face is best. Make sure your primer or foundation has a chemical and not a physical sunscreen if you are going to be outdoors. Physical sunscreen reflects light from camera flashes and can make you look like a ghost! If your ceremony and reception are indoors, try a matte primer for great photos with less reflection of camera light.

awesome colors

Think Awesome! Even romantic. Colors for today’s bride are rich and even bold. Whether you’re having a themed wedding or a traditional ceremony, your makeup should reflect your everyday look and style, but multiplied by 10. If you don’t wear makeup or just use natural colors, then you should choose neutral colors. These colors will be within your comfort zone, but applied correctly they will enhance your features and define your face. If you have chosen a themed wedding, such as a pin-up wedding, have your makeup match that theme.

brow power

Having well-shaped, crisp brows on your wedding day is important, but don’t head to your local wax bar less than a week before your big day. This allows time for any redness, lumps or swelling to dissipate and even for hair to grow back if the epilator was diluted a bit. And of course, don’t forget to fill them in and define them with pencil, powder or gel on your wedding day.

luscious eyelashes

Plan on having false eyelashes or getting extensions! False eyelashes make your eyes look bigger, brighter, and long luscious eyelashes are so romantic. When you look at your wedding day photos, you’ll be glad you’re wearing them. Extensions don’t require mascara, so you won’t have to worry about waterproof mascaras or unseemly black smudges running down your face. The false lash strips will be applied on your wedding day and can be removed when ready.

I love your lips

Using a lip liner on the lips is a must for the final step in color application and at the altar. Lip liner used to line and fill in the lips will give any color or gloss staying power. Try to stay away from lip colors all day as they usually dry out your lips or make them flaky. You need full, kissable lips for that stamp at the end of your vows!

Close the deal

Always be sure to protect your final look with a powder and finishing spray. Finishing powder is basically airbrush correction in a jar. Smoothes your entire look and hides your pores creating a smooth, flawless finish. The finishing spray is a lightweight mist that protects your masterpiece and even has skin care benefits and anti-aging effects.
