In today’s complex music industry, independent artists receive more attention and respect from other countries than they do in their own backyard. What’s wrong with this image? The land of the free, the home of the brave; however, attempting to accelerate his music career with media exposure in the US; foreign countries such as the UK, New Zealand, Canada, Japan, Australia, South Africa; to name a few, they are leading the way in independent artist streaming without hesitation. Being hugged by others and feeling the love and appreciation of having another outlet is a blessing for every independent recording artist; which are being heard on the radio and in other publications such as online music blog magazines. Mainstream radio used to be the place to discover new artists, nowadays why is it so hard to break into mainstream radio? To reach many music lovers around the world; the dependence of a sector on a global market; is not a wise choice among the talented creators who produce music.

As a record executive and manager in the industry; The key is building relationships with others who are willing to share your platform so you can be a better producer and reach consumers in a positive and satisfying way. Music is freedom, an outlet to help people improve their lives like anything else that can be beneficial to the well-being of others. I remember being at a concert a few years ago listening to R&B soul singer/performer Charlie Wilson. As he shared one of his testimonials and reviewed his Baptist tunes, he said how he promised the Lord that he would continue to praise and testify about the level of success he enjoys as an artist. He was not afraid or ashamed to give glory to God! For everything we do, regardless of occupation, if there is an opportunity to do something nice for someone, then do it.

Although conventional radio is one of the biggest platforms to get music heard; We’ve all heard the saying “don’t put all your eggs in one basket”.
