Indian palaces with lavish interiors and sumptuously frescoed mirrored chambers, with a maharajah’s bed and swing made of silver-clad wood, ornate embroidery and silk-trimmed windows contrasting with white marble walls and Kutch beadwork panels in all bedding, this atmosphere is rarely found anywhere else in the world, except for the palaces of India.

Rows of trousseau chests that speak of family pride are symbols of proud heritage and mud plastered huts with ornate mirrors are seen even today in Gujrat, known for its nomadic Banjara tribes.

Each house has a sacred space, which may be a richly painted prayer room or temple or a saffron Om symbol painted at the entrance. Indian interiors are designed to guide the flow of energy through our chakras in a very positive way.

The jharokha or small windows with painted glass add a touch of color to the houses of the little ones. Large or small Havelis, each one speaks of character and history. Roofs made of dried desert grass and walls painted with white clay, the dwellings of camel herders cluster in Jaisalmer and inspire embroidered textiles in beautiful patterns.

Damchias and Manjoosh come from these beautiful cities as do the doors you see on cabinets and sideboards. Coffee tables made from old doors and windows, handmade distressed furniture made from reclaimed and beautifully aged woods. Indian furniture is very eco-friendly and supportive.

The brass and iron elements used in doors are essentially grounding techniques used to guide the electromagnetic charge around us. The carvings symbolize the chakras and energy centers that bring peace and harmony to our interiors.
