Gil Grissom and Sara Sidle from CSI

CSI creator William Petersen finally clarifies what exactly is going on between the show’s two main characters, Gil Grissom (played by William Petersen) and Sara Sidle (played by Jorja Fox). However, if you’re one of the millions who have tuned in every week since the show began airing, the fact that Grissom and Sara are involved in a romantic relationship certainly doesn’t come as much of a surprise.

Going by the current plot of the show, the other main characters are clueless about Grissom and Sara, and Petersen intends to keep it that way in the meantime, as it not only intensifies the obstacles the lovers must overcome, but also saves the other characters get sidetracked from their lab work. Of course, the audience is lucky not to suffer from the shock, and the clues that point to the true state of the relationship have continued to appear throughout the show.

The relationship is another classic example of forbidden love. Grissom is, as all fans know, the head of the night shift crew at the Las Vegas crime lab. Sara is a materials and elements analyst who previously worked at the San Francisco crime lab. Professionally, they make a great couple, but romantically, it’s a disaster waiting to happen, if only because of the boundaries they’ve crossed. Besides, even if everyone else found out about them and gave them the go-ahead, Grissom and Sara would have to face yet another social stigma. To state the obvious, there is a significant age difference between the two characters, and although they appear to be on the same level of maturity, one can only imagine the implications of the situation on their work and emotional well-being.

Petersen has certainly been able to add to the complexity of the show by creating the budding romance, and has kept viewers glued to their televisions in sweet anticipation for upcoming episodes of CSI.
