How has SMS communication changed the way we talk?

The short messaging service or SMS was introduced more than two decades ago. However, in the initial phase only computers could send SMS. Over a period of time, experts figured out a way for mobile devices to send text messages, and thus SMS started the communication tool of the new age. It was a blessing to be able to write your message and send it to the interested person in a matter of minutes. In fact, SMS as you know it today is responsible for familiarizing us with the basics of mobile chat on the various platforms that we are currently using.

For those of you who find it hard to believe, this is how SMS changed the way we communicate.

More room for small talk

SMS started in an era where a phone call was expensive. But, over time, SMS grew to become one of the cheapest ways to communicate and everyone found it really interesting to talk more about messaging. Suddenly you were more connected and there was no need to spend money on a call as well. The trend continues even today and we have our own chat groups on different platforms where we stay more connected with our friends and family due to small talk.

Believe it or not, SMS or text messages have also improved your understanding of the language. After all, when you’re writing, you’re most aware of the words that convey your thoughts. We may have created SMS jargon, but it’s just acronyms and doesn’t compromise your understanding of the language.

People are connected even when making a call is not allowed

Imagine a situation where you are in an important meeting and you are not allowed to answer the mobile phone. Now, even in such situations, there may be an urgency that needs to be conveyed to you. If people can’t call you, how will the news of the emergency reach you? SMS or short messaging service is the answer to this problem.

Also, there are no clear rules that do not allow you to accept a text message. You can quickly read the message, analyze the urgency of the situation, and act accordingly.

Networking Made Easy

Calling people and networking is a daunting task. However, sending SMS can make this challenge quite simple. You can broadcast the message to multiple groups at the same time and also pre-schedule the time of the messaging. This way you stay connected with people without having to spend hours calling each and every one of them. Amazing, right?
