How to save money on your wedding?

These days, many couples are looking for ways to save money on their big day. The creative types have come up with all sorts of alternate universe scenarios, while the sensitive types consider practical solutions for a cheap wedding like eloping to St. Augustine, Florida. Seriously though, some crazy ideas have been thrown around and here are a few we’ve found.

1. Get rid of the wedding photographer: why pay a wedding photographer when all your friends already have a 2+ megapixel cell phone camera? Hold a competition that offers prizes for the “best” shots that cover several categories. Make the prizes things you were already going to have at the wedding reception anyway. For example, offer a bottle of champagne to the winners. You were already going to have 30 bottles at the reception anyway, so why not let a few lucky guests bring one with them? It also saves on the cost of waiters. They won’t get far without someone demanding a recharge.

2. BYOB: Use the excuse that your friends have such refined drink tastes that you don’t want to insult them by serving them something they don’t like. For example; Bud Light instead of Miller Light.

3. Potluck: Celebrate the diversity of your friends and family by asking them to bring their favorite family recipe to the reception, including a place card that explains the history and significance of the dish. Of your course you don’t give a damn about the history or the meaning as long as you serve at least 30-40 or your guests.

4. Corporate Sponsorship – Convince your boss and your fiancée’s boss that the ultimate in social media advertising is sponsoring a social event, like your wedding reception!

5.Sell DVD’s: Pre-order at the reception the DVD of the video your friend is taking of the reception with his iPhone. Title it “Guests gone wild” and then encourage everyone to be goofy at the front desk, like they need some encouragement anyway.

6. Get married via Twitter or Skype: Instead of going to the expense of having a real wedding, have a virtual wedding. Make sure you upload everything to YouTube right after and it could go viral. If you get enough views, you can even put up an advertising link and pay for your honeymoon!

Or he could just give all that up and plan to elope instead. In fact, if you do elope, not only will you save a considerable amount of money compared to a traditional wedding, but you’ll have enough left over to do something most people can only dream of; have fun at your own wedding! Imagine being able to get married, have a honeymoon, go shopping and do all the fun things you would like to do on vacation for the same price as a wedding dress.
Don’t waste time figuring out how to scrimp, save, and pay for your perfect wedding day. Instead, make an entire week with less hassle and expense and just elope.
