Las Vegas Shows: The Best Production Shows on the Strip

Las Vegas prides itself on offering the ultimate fantasy getaway, and where would fantasy be without its spectacular shows? From thrill-seeking adults to wide-eyed kids, there’s a show to suit every taste and every budget.

Hotel and casino owners realized early on that gambling wasn’t enough to provide enough entertainment for their patrons: to keep Las Vegas the number one entertainment spot in the country, it had to offer anything else.

First came the glamorous Las Vegas showgirls, decked out in feathers, sequins and little else. More elaborate and escapist production shows were mounted as hotels vied for high rollers and families alike.

Today, every casino on the Strip has its own extravagant performance venue, many built just to host a specific long-running fantasy show.

The following are examples of some of the best shows Las Vegas currently has to offer.

Le Reve at Wynn Las Vegas

“Le Reve,” currently playing at Wynn Las Vegas, is a show with a venue tailor-made for him. And it’s no wonder: this circular water theater is the stage for a spectacular display of acrobatic choreography, dreamy aerial art, and dazzling special effects.

Similar in production values to a Cirque du Soleil show, “Le Reve” will mesmerize you with its talent and staging. See it at Wynn Las Vegas Thursday through Monday at 7 pm and 9:30 pm

Ghost at the Venetian Hotel and Casino

“The Phantom of the Opera” may have circled the globe several times, but wait until you see it at The Venetian Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas! Still featuring all of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s soulful songs, the show was staged in a room renovated to resemble the Paris Opera. Dramatic new effects have been added to this production, and the chandelier scene is described as a real heart-stopper. See “The Phantom of the Opera” at The Venetian, Monday through Saturday, 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Cirque du Soleil

Let’s face it, Cirque du Soleil knows how to put on a magnificent show! Las Vegas is blessed with six shows currently running and another opening soon. Blue Man Group at the Venetian

The “Blue Man Group” is another show that has been reworked especially for Las Vegas audiences. This impressive show is also at The Venetian. It has been described by The New York Times as “one of the most charming performances ever put on”. What to expect when the three Blue Men take their places under the lights? An amazingly inventive experience that’s both fun and riveting…and where the audience will likely be part of the action. See the “Blue Man Group” every night, with two shows on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday; a show on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

Jersey Boys at the Palazzo

“Jersey Boys” is the newest show put on by The Palazzo, and it definitely has baby boomer appeal. This charming musical tells the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, their beginnings as blue-collar kids in Newark, and their eventual rise to Top-Forty fame. Showcased in lavish production numbers are old favorites like “Sherry,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” and “Walk Like a Man.” Catch “Jersey Boys” at 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Saturdays; 7PM Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

Stomp out loud

“Stomp Out Loud,” the Las Vegas version of New York City’s favorite “Stomp,” has been described by the Las Vegas Review-Journal as “the most satisfying experience on the Strip.” Loud, rhythmic and hugely entertaining, “Stomp” seems to be a show that audiences either love or hate, but love is clearly winning at Planet Hollywood. A young and energetic troupe uses objects from the street (55-gallon drums, trash can lids, broomsticks) in a musical and acrobatic dance performance that keeps the audience fully engaged and entertained. Catch “Stomp” at Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino at 7 pm, seven days a week.
