Adopt a Bookmark Program – It Works

We’ve all heard of adopting a dog from the kennel, or sending $12 a month to help adopt an African child, but have you ever heard of the “Bookmark Adoption Program”? day, and I laughed a lot when I saw it, since it was in our public library. And yes, as a matter of fact, I needed a couple of bookmarks, so I adopted them, in other words, I picked it up and got them for free.

Surprisingly, I wasn’t the only person doing this, and it was something that the Friends of the Library program had done to help encourage reading in the community, and on the Scoreboard there was an ad to join the Friends of the Library, or donate money to their adult literacy program. I thought it was a wonderful public relations idea. It’s amazing what creative people will think when given the opportunity.

Maybe I’ll join the Friends of the Library, because I keep looking at these really cool bookmarks that remind me to send $15. And to think that the price to make that Bookmarker was probably less than a quarter, I’d say it was a good fundraiser for them. That was until I looked at the back of the bookmark, and at the bottom, it said it was “printed by Joe’s Printing Shop,” and then I realized that the bookmark didn’t cost the Friends of the Library a dime.

Joe’s Printing Shop had donated the paper and printing at no cost to them, and since they did, I think I’ll ask them to print my next batch of 1,000 business cards for being such good players in the community. If you’re looking for a really good idea to promote your nonprofit group, why not think about it in these terms and see what ideas come to mind? Please consider all of this.
