Coating countertops is a wise and affordable alternative

Most countertop materials are strong and durable, but over time they gradually deteriorate and become more vulnerable to heat, weather, stains, scratches, etc. When the effects of wear become visible to the naked eye, your countertop will no longer be pleasing to the eye. When this time comes, you are forced to think about replacing your countertops. No problem if you have the budget and are willing to shell out a lot of money. However, if your pocket is not too deep, you have to look for other options. Coating countertops can solve this problem without taxing your budget.

Instead of completely replacing your kitchen or bathroom countertop, renovating them just involves repairing or replacing damaged or old laminate. This process will make your countertop look like new even though the supporting structure remains the same.

On top of that, you can do this cladding yourself, especially if your countertop is only made of thin material like laminates. Laminates and other thin materials are generally easy to coat, so you can do it yourself with the help of a family member. However, thick materials like full granite are tricky and need to be done by a professional.

There are basically two approaches to renovating countertops. The first method deals with a badly damaged laminate. In this process, you have to change the old laminate for a new one. After removing the old laminate, you should remove all the glue on the counter with a stripper or paint scraper. Next, smooth the surface of the counter with medium-grade sandpaper. Thereafter, remove all dust and debris. At this point you should have a counter that has a clean surface.

Now, you are ready to install the new laminate. First, apply glue evenly on the counter surface. Choose a laminate that matches other colors in the room. Once this is done, lay the laminate flat on the glued surface. Flatten it more with a rolling pin. Once finished, let it dry. At this point, your laminate countertop is really new even if its base is not.

On the other hand, if your laminate is still in good condition but you just want a new look, there is another way to refinish countertops. This process is almost the same as the first. The only difference is that you do not have to remove the old laminate, but put a new one on top of it. You just have to scratch the surface of the old laminate with sandpaper. Clean the dirt and put glue evenly on it. The same process continues when it comes to laying the new laminate over it.
