Personal injury law: types of personal injury

Personal injury is a vast topic with hundreds of titles listed below. It is very vague, simply because it is almost impossible to predict what kind of injury a given accident may cause, as it is almost impossible to predict how a person will react during that accident. There is no definition of what can and cannot be treated as a personal injury. A verdict of guilty or not guilty in a personal injury claim is determined simply by the circumstances surrounding the accident itself and what caused it.

Common personal injuries
The most common injury behind most personal injury lawsuits is slip and fall injuries. These generally occur through someone else’s negligence for not keeping an area clean and free of debris or slippery substances. The most common causes of slip and fall cases are snow and ice, and a lack of proper cleaning of wet floors, both completely preventable. Injuries caused by slip and fall accidents are often listed individually when determining compensation in a personal injury claim.

Head injuries
Head injuries are common in personal injury claims. Shelves can sometimes be misplaced or improperly secured, resulting in head injury from hitting the top of the head or from a shelf or other item falling out of place. Head injuries caused by slip and fall accidents can also be added to an injury compensation list in a slip and fall case. Motor vehicle accident claims also often include head injuries.

Broken bones in the body
Broken bones are another common type of personal injury. These are also often associated with slip and fall accidents, but they also occur in cases where heavy equipment is involved in accidents. Some cases involving broken bones can be due to causes such as fist fights or darker events. Another common cause of broken bone claims is distant accidents.

Soft tissue damage
Soft tissue damage, such as internal bruising or whiplash, is just as dangerous as hard tissue damage, such as broken bones or concussions. Internal bleeding is more difficult to determine severity and more difficult to control. Whiplash can have lifelong detrimental effects on a person’s neck mobility. Soft tissue damage can also affect important organs such as the kidneys, stomach, intestines, lungs, and heart, which can affect a person for the rest of their life as well.

No matter what type of injury, whether it was caused by the negligence or fault of another person or company, it may be worth talking to a qualified and experienced personal injury attorney. While it may seem implausible, personal injury attorneys are trained to use available evidence in combination with the laws of the area to find a reasonable outcome for their clients.
